K-Pop Roundup

K-Pop Roundup: Top Ten Releases of March 2024

This has been an incredible month for music here in Korea, and now that I’m living in Seoul, I’ve been able to do a lot more with the music, when I have the time to listen to it. Yes, this is incredibly late, but I still wanted to share this with you.

But let’s keep this brief. Here are my top ten (plus three Honorable Mentions) releases in K-pop for this month. As usual, click the song title to take you directly to the track on Spotify, or find the playlist below! Let’s get into it!

10.

Wendy – “Wish You Hell”

As much as I love Wendy, I just don’t feel like this song fits her personal concept or her voice as well as other songs could have. The video and the choreography is great, so much that it made the list at all, but it’s not my favorite Wendy song. Others on the album could have placed higher on the list had they been the title tracks. But it does place on the list because I absolutely love the video concept, and Wendy looks amazing.

9.

xikers – “We Don’t Stop”

This is just such a fun song, and the video is so simple at times, and complex at others. The late-90s vibes are strong with this one, and all these boys look and sound amazing in this song. It’s not my usual style, but it’s so fun that I can’t stop listening to it. The breakdown in the last chorus is way too good. If you like a more hiphop style of music, this might be the song for you this month.

8.

YooA – “Rooftop”

This song is serving. I love YooA, and this song suits her so well. Her solo releases have been beautifully and elegantly sexy, and this is no exception. This edgier look for her mixed with the almost 90s pop diva vibe from the song is perfect for her, and a great release for the month. I mostly love watching this video over and over to just admire how beautiful she looks, but because the song isn’t fully my style (even though I do love it), this song placed pretty low on the ranking.

7.

HIGHLIGHT – “BODY”

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting this song to slap as hard as it does. It’s so catchy, and perfectly campy as our first release from this veteran group in a long time. They’re so unserious as a group, and I love when older groups know how to be playful while looking incredibly sexy at the same time. The vocals are so strong, and the vibes are so fun, but this couldn’t place any higher because I just loved the other songs so much.

6.

Purple Kiss – “BBB”

I am extremely biased about how much I love this song, since I heard it the weekend before release at their spoiler busking event in Gangnam. Purple Kiss’ vocals are always top tier, and they’re killing this girl crush concept. The bad girl look suits them so well. These dreamy vocals are the biggest part of the reason for this song placing so high on the ranking this month.

5.

Chungha – “EENIE MEENIE (Feat. Hongjoong of ATEEZ)”

Queen Chungha is back! Do I think some of the wardrobe choices in this video are silly? Of course. But the vocals and choreography are incredible. And with the original Captain Hongjoong of ATEEZ featuring, there was no way this could flop. But Chungha definitely carries this song on her own, allowing her strong performance skills to shine as she sings and raps while doing this intricate choreography. I’m obsessed with her, and with her dance crew.

4.

DAY6 – “Welcome to the Show”

THEY’RE BACK. I’m obsessed with this song, and I’m so glad to have more music from Day6. I love this video concept of imagining your life playing out on a stage and becoming everything you ever wanted. Did I cry while watching this through a few times? No, absolutely not… But this is one of the sweetest songs I’ve heard in a LONG time. And that’s not even mentioning just how great these men look after coming back from their military service. This had to rank just under the three songs I felt with my SOUL this month, but that doesn’t mean it’s not just as good if not better!

3.

The New Six (TNX) – “FUEGO”

Another amazing comeback, and I am honestly so proud of The New Six for how hard they worked through these promotions. With this being the first of their promotions that saw member Junhyuk fully participating since debut, they gathered a lot of attention for the strength of their performances. And that, plus how catchy the chorus of the song is, is what brings it up to Number 3 this month. Kyungjun’s deep voice doing the iconic “1, 2, 3, Fuego” part is burned into my brain.

2.

The Boyz – “Nectar”

Almost at my Number 1 spot for the month, we have my babies, The Boyz. This song is so amazing, as I mentioned in my Album Review post, but I think it was the fact that it is harder to dance along to that moved it down to the Number 2 spot. But you better believe that I’m going to be trying to get into their concert in July so I can see this song live! I think the beautiful vocals and complicated emotions of the video really pushed it higher up on my list.

Honorable Mention 1.

NCT DREAM – “Smoothie”

This one would have probably made it higher up on the list if the chorus of the song hadn’t been so damned repetitive. They repeated the title “Smoothie” so many times that I lost count and the word lost all meaning. But the rest of the song and the choreography are amazing. Also… Are they killers? I don’t quite understand the music video at all.

Honorable Mention 2.

BAE173 – “Fifty-Fifty”

Did I have to reconsider my entire ranking just because I wanted to feature this song and group higher? Absolutely. The visual effects in this video are stunning and really caught my attention, not to mention the visuals of the members themselves. I just had stronger feelings for so many other songs this month, but please go and listen to this song, watch this video, and stan this group because they’re super talented.

Honorable Mention 3.

VCHA – “Only One”

These girls have grown as performers so much in such a short time, but this barely counts as K-pop, mostly counting on this list because they are a JYP group. I do love the song, because they have such great vocals and the song is so catchy.

1.

AMPERS&ONE – “Broken Heart”

No one is surprised that I chose this, I’m sure. As I mentioned in my Album Review post, this song is just so catchy and I can’t keep myself from dancing along to it any time I hear it. I can still feel the booming bass from the showcase. I fully support these boys in anything they do, now and in the future. I can’t imagine loving any of the other songs on this list as much as I love this one. The vocals, the dance, the stage presence, and the visual effects in the music video are incomparable.

Final Thoughts

Once again, this was a very hard list to narrow down. I felt like I was choosing between my children, because I was so emotionally invested in the success of these top three songs. If you disagree with where I ranked your favorite songs of the month, please let me know in the comments down below.
